In Chinese, '绳子' means 'rope'. It is generally used in the same way as in English, to refer to a long, thick line or cord, frequently used for tying, binding, or fastening. It may also be used metaphorically in some contexts, just as 'rope' in English can be a metaphor for connection or binding.

Here's how to use it:

  • 我把绳子绑在树上。
Wǒ bǎ shéngzi bǎng zài shù shàng.

In Chinese, '空' means 'empty'. It is used in various contexts such as to imply the lack of something (emotion, substance, people, etc), emptiness, or the concept of absence. Example in a sentence could be: '这个房间是空的'('This room is empty').

Here's how to use it:

在...之上

zài...zhī shàng

In Chinese, '在...之上' is used to indicate something is on top of something else. This phrase is quite literal and can be used in the same way as 'upon' in English, to refer to something being above or over another object or concept. However, it is often used in more formal contexts or literary language.

Here's how to use it:

  • 书在桌子之上。
    Shū zài zhuōzi zhī shàng.
  • 枕头在床之上。
    Zhěntou zài chuáng zhī shàng.
  • 球在篮之上。
    Qiú zài lán zhī shàng.

The Chinese word for 'cry' is 哭 [kū]. It is used in similar context to the English word 'cry', both emotionally, such as crying out of sadness, and physically, such as crying tears. It can be used as a verb in sentences.

Here's how to use it:

  • 你为什么哭
    Nǐ wèishéme kū
  • 我看到他哭
    Wǒ kàn dào tā kū
